Phrasal Verbs
Go off – spoil or go bad
Do you smell that? The meat in my fridge has gone off. We can’t eat it.
Die out – become extinct
The dinosaurs have already died out.
Run out – to finish completely, to be all gone
The world’s oil supply will soon run out.
I need to go to the store because I ran out of bananas.
We run out of something.
Give off – to produce heat, a smell, a gas
Trees give off oxygen that we breathe.
The stove is giving off a bad smell.
Cut down – cut a tree so that it fallsWe are cutting down vital trees in the forest.
Bring out – produce and start to sell a new product
BMW brought out a new green car.
Clear up – become better after rain or cloud WEATHER
After the storm, the sky cleared up.
Throw away – dispose of something, get rid or something
Throw away the trash, please.

Landfill sites – dump, place where the city takes the garbage
Fumes – strong unpleasant and sometimes dangerous gas or smoke
Exhaust fumes, petrol fumes, cigar fumes
Heavy traffic – lots of traffic (cars on the road at the same time)
Emissions -  an amount of gas, heat or light that is sent out
Acid rain -  rain that contains acid which is harmful to the environment
Heavy rain – rain that falls in large quantities
Drought – long period of time when there is little or no rain
Flood – a large amount of water covering an area that is usually dry
Wasteful – using something in a careless way and causing some of it to be wasted
